5G ACTION NOW CHAIRMAN MIKE ROGERS AND GENERAL MCMASTER AGREE:

CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY-BACKED COMPANIES REPRESENT A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO AMERICA’S NATIONAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY
WASHINGTON, DC – This week the Atlantic ran an excerpt from the upcoming book by Lt. General and former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster. Among the topics that General McMaster addressed in the short passage in the Atlantic were the dangers posed by Chinese backed companies like Huawei that are trying to dominate the world’s 5G market.

From General McMaster:

China’s use of major telecommunications companies to control communications networks and the internet overseas must be countered. There should no longer be any dispute concerning the need to defend against the multinational technology company Huawei and its role in China’s security apparatus.

In 2019, a series of investigations revealed incontrovertible evidence of the grave national-security danger associated with a wide array of Huawei’s telecommunications equipment. Many Huawei workers are simultaneously employed by China’s Ministry of State Security and the intelligence arm of the People’s Liberation Army. Huawei technicians have used intercepted cell data to help autocratic leaders in Africa spy on, locate, and silence political opponents.

A priority area for multinational cooperation among free societies should be the development of infrastructure, particularly 5G communications, to form trusted networks that protect sensitive and proprietary data.

Mike Rogers, Chairman of 5G Action Now and former Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said the following about General McMaster’s warning:

“A necessary consensus is emerging that Chinese Communist Party-backed companies represent a clear and present danger to America’s national and economic security—now and into the future. As Lt. Gen. McMaster rightly notes, we need to work to ensure our networks are protected by preventing these companies from getting any foothold.”
